Pasta from Glasgow made better than pasta from Italy?!...surely not
Coming from an Italian family I find it very difficult to find pasta at a restaurant that still hits the same taste buds as the pasta that is made by my Italian grandma. However, Sugo's pasta has to be one of the BEST pasta (from a restaurant) I have ever tasted! If you don't believe me you need to try for yourself...

Sugo is located right in the centre of Glasgow on Mitchell street and is bringing all of the Italian delights to Glasgow. The pasta is freshly made by expert chefs using the same authentic techniques used in Italy. As soon as you take your first bite you can taste the quality of the pasta. Every time I have walked past Sugo I have always seen it full of people and I think this speaks volumes in showing how good it really is! You can book a table at Sugo, however it isn't essential due to the service being so quick you wouldn't have to wait long till a table becomes available (even where there is a HUGE queue outside, which due to Sugo's popularity is often the case).
My friends and I visited on a Wednesday evening at around 5pm and the restaurant was full (this could have been due to the announcement on the new COVID restrictions so everyone wanted to get one last meal in before the restaurants closed). We did book which was handy as it meant we didn't have to wait for a table. The menu at Sugo is small although it offers a variety of pasta dishes. My personal favourite is number 5 - Pappardelle with Tuscan Wild Boar Ragu. Also, number 3 - Rigatoni al Arrabbiata and number 7 - Fettuccine with spicy Nduja & Pork Ragu are amazing if you enjoy a little spice in your pasta. All dishes come with parmesan on so it is important to inform your server if you don't want this. I am sure we all feel the pressure on trying to pronounce the dish we want to order and when it arrives we can't remember the name of the dish. Sugo has removed this problem by assigning each dish a number which makes the ordering process much more convenient for diners. It should be noted that although Sugo is currently closed due to the new restrictions placed on the central belt in Scotland you can order Sugo to your home through the Uber Eats app.

The drinks menu in Sugo is limited with the restaurant only offering beers and wines. The wine comes in cute little glasses and the beers come in a branded glass. All drinks are reasonably price.

During my visit it only seemed right to try out the desert menu - it would be rude not to, right? I had the Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart, which was unreal and I would definitely recommend it if you're a chocoholic like myself! We also tried the New York Cheesecake and the Cannolo with Ricotta Pistachio and Chocolate. We loved all of the desserts and would recommend you also treat yourself to one if you visit Sugo.

Sugo is getting added to Row's Recommendations with a 8/10 listing. The staff were lovely and friendly throughout and catered to all our needs. The service was speedy which meant we weren't waiting around for our food for long at all. I can't wait to return with my family (especially my Italian grandma to see if she approves, that will be the real test!) and friends to enjoy even more of their incredible pasta.
Really like this review, there is a good amount of detail which provides a good overwiew of what is offered at Sugo! Some nice dishes on offer and i can't wait to try it out when i'm next in Glasgow! The real will be, however, does it taste like Libera's pasta??
ReplyDeleteNothing can be as good as grandmas but definitely a close second!
