Welcome to Row's Recommendations

Hello and welcome to Row's Recommendations! My name is Rowan, but most people call me Row. I am currently a third year Business student studying at the University of Strathclyde. I'm originally from Newcastle, but have been living in Glasgow for three years now (the time has flown by)! I LOVE Glasgow and couldn't imagine being a student anywhere else.


Although University life can be very fast paced with little free time, when I do get free time, I love to go out to restaurants and bars to socialise with my friends. I am sure we are all guilty of falling into the trap (I know I sure am) of going to the typical chain restaurants and bars: Nando's, TGI's, Pizza Hut, Slug and Lettuce, Revolution...the list is endless, but sometimes it is good to experience unique places in a particular city. That is why I have made this blog to find some "hidden gems" within the City of Glasgow.


Over the next few blog posts I will be reviewing different food and drink spots across Glasgow. I hope this blog opens your eyes into trying new places around the city and falling out of the trap of always going to chain restaurants. All of these reviewed places will be independent to Glasgow and especially at such a time of uncertainty the local businesses would really appreciate your support. I hope you enjoy reading this as much I enjoyed conducting the "market research" for these posts!

The BEST Ice Cream in Glasgow?!

If you live in Glasgow and haven't ever visited Loop and Scoop - what are you doing?! You are seriously missing out! It was a cold, autumnal Monday evening and my friends and I decided this was the perfect time to drive to Loop and Scoop - a bit ironic considering the weather, however this was the best idea we could have had! Pasta from Glasgow made better than pasta from Italy?!...surely not

Coming from an Italian family I find it very difficult to find pasta at a restaurant that still hits the same taste buds as the pasta that is made by my Italian grandma. However, Sugo's pasta has to be one of the BEST pasta (from a restaurant) I have ever tasted! If you don't believe me you need to try for yourself... Source: TripAdvisor  Sugo is located right in the centre of Glasgow on Mitchell street and is bringing all of the Italian delights to Glasgow. The pasta is freshly made by expert chefs using the same authentic techniques used in Italy. As soon as you take your first bite you can taste the quality of the pasta.  Every time I have walked past Sugo I have always seen it full of people and I think this speaks volumes in showing how good it really is! £3 burger and chips?!...surely not

As the famous Tik Tok once said: "This is only £5 chicken burger and chips, so nice, such a bargain and proper nice as well". (If you haven't seen this Tik Tok please go and watch it, my friends and I find it so funny and quote it on the daily). Anyway, back to the real bargain: £3 for a burger and chips!!! YES, you heard me right, I did say £3!  All of you will be wondering where this staggering deal can be found, well look no further than Bloc+.
